  • Fall arresters

  • Connectors
  • Deceleration devices and lanyards
  • Body harnesses
  • Horizontal and vertical lifelines

Additionally, we offer services such as designing custom equipment, maintenance and repair, training, and rentals.

Fall Arresters for Safety

Fall arresters are primarily used in cases where workers need a device that travels on a lifeline and will automatically engage or lock in the event of a fall. Fall arresters minimize the distance of the fall by immediately arresting the fall when it occurs. These devices are used in vertical fall protection mechanisms.

To ensure proper functioning, fall arresters must be regularly checked by a trained and certified person for issues such as deformations or damages that could compromise the safety device. The arrester must be replaced immediately if any damages are detected.

At Webb-Rite Safety, we offer the following products:

  • C300. This is an automatic arrester with a dual cam locking mechanism that locks immediately in case of a fall. Made of stainless steel, this device can be used with 3/8″ and 5/16″ galvanized or steel cables.
  • R100. This product is made of stainless steel and offers hands-free operation for use on vertical weighted lifelines. This arrester locks immediately if a fall occurs and moves freely on a brass roller along a 5/8″ rope. It has a minimum breaking load of 3600 lbs.
  • R110. This nickel-plated steel device is manually operated for positioning along a lifeline. It comes with a dual cam locking system with a bottom rope feed. It supports a minimum breaking load of 3600 lbs. and is used with 3/4″ or 5/8″ synthetic ropes. It also has automatic locks that activate immediately when a fall occurs.

Product Compliance

When it comes to fall arresters, compliance to set standards is of utmost importance. Our products are all compliant with ANSI Z359.1, which is a standard that details the requirements regarding the performance, marking, design, qualification, training, instruction, maintenance, use, and removal of safety systems such as full body harnesses, lanyards, connectors, anchorage connectors, fall arresters, and more.

OSHA Standards

As per OSHA, there are two height requirements that mandate the use of fall arresters:

  • Any personnel working over 4′ in general industries
  • Any personnel working over 6′ in construction

In certain cases, there are no minimum height requirements, and a fall arrester is made mandatory for any height.

Exceptions approved by OSHA, include:

  • Scaffolding
  • Stairs
  • Steel erections
  • Ladders
  • Vertical rebar assemblies

Fall Arrest vs. Fall Restraint

Fall restraints are used in rooftop jobs where the workers tie off the anchorage at or near their feet, and they eliminate the need for prompt rescue in case of a fall. Fall arresters provide freedom of movement in the working zone. Continuous lanyard adjustment can become cumbersome, and during such scenarios, an overhead, self-retracting lifeline can provide a safe working environment.

Conclusion

Fall arresters are an important safety component, especially for personnel who work at elevated heights. They allow workers to move freely while eliminating the risk of injury in the event of a fall. At Webb-Rite Safety, we focus on producing high quality fall arrest systems that cater to the needs of our customers. To know more about our products and services, contact us today.
