Product Spotlight: Portable Stair Rack

Webb-Rite Safety has over 20 years of experience producing durable OSHA-compliant fall protection systems. We provide reliable safety solutions that include rescue gear, harnesses, carabiners, and our most recent addition to the product line: our mobile stair rack.

Fall protection is an essential aspect of worker safety for many industries, such as construction, military and defense, entertainment, among many others. Webb-Rite Safety is always developing new safety solutions. The latest addition to our line of portable fall protection equipment is our portable stair rack, which provides easy access to elevated structures, such as railcars or tanks.

Rolling Platform Stairs for Inspection, Loading, and More!

The WRS portable stair rack is made of sturdy galvanized steel and aluminum construction. Its stability is enhanced by the inclusion of leveling jacks, and it has counterweights built into the base to make it self-supporting. In addition to its solid construction, our stair rack is also designed with ease of movement in mind. Positioning the stairs close to the area you’re working on, or moving to a new location is simple.

Our stair rack comes in two easy to maneuver designs: wheels or forklift pockets. Featuring a clearance range of 11 ft. and 16 ft., this product is ideal for accessing challenging spaces on top of rail cars or tanker trucks for loading, venting, or inspection. It is raised and lowered with the easy-to-use hand winch. The WRS portable stair rack is OSHA-compliant, which means workers will have a safe method of performing their tasks, with reduced risk of injury.

OSHA Regulations for Mobile Stair Racks and Platforms

Mobile ladder stands provide safe work surfaces for performing tasks in hard-to-reach environments. The appearance and design of these stair racks can vary according to the industry they are made for, and there are generally two types of stands: mobile ladder stands and mobile ladder stand platforms. Choosing the correct type of product for your application is essential in preventing workplace injuries and accidents. It is also important that workers are properly trained before using these products.

Training

All employees should meet the 1910:30 standard training requirements before using a mobile stair rack or platform. They should be trained in subjects such as proper locking mechanism usage, structural components, as well as correct platform and guardrail use, among other things. It’s also important that workers using the ladder inspect it properly before use and take precautions such as wearing slip-resistant footwear and fitted clothing. Rolling ladders should always be positioned with all four feet on level ground and should never be repositioned with tools still on them.

In certain situations, workers will need retraining. For example, if workers are using the equipment in an unsafe manner, or if they are involved in an accident or near-miss, then it is important to retrain them. Following the standards for ladder care, storage, and use ensures a safe work environment and a long lifetime of the equipment.

Using Mobile Ladder Platforms

Ladder stands are designed for one worker to use at a time while ladder stand platforms provide enough space for multiple workers and their equipment to use simultaneously. To prevent job site injuries, it is essential to choose the correct type of ladder stand for your intended use. In addition to how many workers will use the stairs at once, it’s also important to consider the required size, height, and maximum intended load.

The correct stairs should ensure no rail overreach occurs during the work activity. Additionally, all mobile ladders should be designed with manual or automatic locking mechanisms to ensure worker safety. Ladder stands or platforms should always have the locking mechanism engaged before workers step onto them, and should always be kept clean and dry.
